LA Noire

Ok, so I recently got LA: Noire to play.

For those that don't know LA: Noire is one of the latest offerings from Rockstar Games. Featured in Los Angeles in the year 1947, It bases the storyline around an ex military person by the name of Cole Phelps (Hard to forgot, he mentions it countless times throughout the game).

I will be frank with my review of the game (its not a complete review owing to the point I haven't actually completed it to 100% yet).

I find the game itself is rather good in its graphics side, sound and actually game play are quite good as well.
However, having said that, the game unfortunatly is fraught with bugs, some big and some small.

The bugs I've uncovered so far are:

  • Convertible cars (When driving without your partner) freeze on crossroads/intersections.
  • Phelp's "Nash" car lifts up when driving on concrete paths (by the Tar-Pits, BEFORE the Black Dalhia case's)
  • Sound is lost on some cutscenes (Only Phelps' speech)
  • Steering can sporadicly lock and cause the car to jerk to one side.
  • AI cars can sometimes pull out infront of the police car (With siren on) causing a crash.
  • Graphics on close-up items (Such as envelopes, sheets of paper, white cups, and white shirts) Appears glitchy and blocky (Heavily compressed textures?)
  • During and after the Black Dalhia case's Phelps is unable to enter the Nash car in parking bay 2 of the Central police station.

Other than the above, I find the game to be very enjoyable and it does make a change from the traditional setting that is found in Grand Theft Auto.

Windows 8 (Opinion)

Firstly I will apologise for my dissappearence from the web for a while, things have been extremely busy the past few weeks and most other things have had to take a back seat for a while.
I do hope that all my readers have had a wonderful christmas (or whatever your appropriate festival occasions).

On to the news, Having looked at the released images of Windows 8, I have to be plainly honest, I find the new layout absolutely shocking, it is tiresome and honestly unneccessary. It also lacks the familiar enticement that draws in the user. Microsoft expect to encourage more users to use Windows 7 and Windows 8 (What with XP fast becoming obsolete and the well documented failure of Vista).

Please Microsoft I emplore you, reconsider the design and make it far more user friendly to the newer uses, I'm a veteran of your operating systems, having used every single one of them. I can say I would not touch Windows 8 even if you paid me for it.

More GTA V News

I will be updating here with more GTA V news in the next few days as well as a review of Elder Scrolls: Skyrim in the next few weeks.

I do apologise for the delays in updating, I am currently designing and building a new gaming computer. This is rather eating up a fair amount of my time.

In future I will be updating much more

Until next time

The Sims 3 Pets Review

The Sims, as we all know is a Simulation game created by EA and Maxis in which you take control of the lives of the hapless individuals.

Having played the various Sims games over the years from the Original Sims, through Sims 2 and now onto Sims 3, I've come to expect a certain "Yes" factor from the creators. Every time a new expansion is released I look for that little something that gives a wow factor.
The Sims 3 Pets I must say does not disappoint.

With the release of the Sims 3 Pets comes a whole myriad of creatures you can own and control, from low maintainace creatures such as Snakes and Lizards to the higher maintainance creatures such as Dogs, Cats and Horses.

EA and Maxis have gone above and beyond the call of duty on the graphics side of things, as the attention to detail in the game is second to none, however I will say that having played the game myself I do find a couple of small graphical niggles (Namely a flickering staircase and small transparency issues with dog manes (Notable on the Alaskan Malamute model).
The horse models I have found are much more than I ever expected, with the fluidity of the creature even better than those found in Red Dead Redemption, And thats saying something If you take into account that I have tested this out on the PC version of The Sims 3 Pets and Red Dead Redemption is a strictly console game, the consoles of which have higher specs than most PC's.

The Game in itself is a success and I would be glad to recommend it to fellow Sim Enthusiasts. I can safely say that I find nothing of note to complain about in the game.

A Note to EA: In the loading screen of the game it shows a caption which mentions a Unicorn, however it isn't shown in the Create-A-Sim section, I would assume the Unicorn may appear later in the game or as a random event.

The Score's:

Graphics: 9 / 10
  • The graphics are better than ever before as they really hone in on detail and immersing yourself in the game, however as mentioned above, there are minor niggles that could be worked out.
Gameplay: 9 / 10
  • Gameplay has been made more interesting as the overall game incorporates some interesting twists to the system in order to keep the player active and attentive to the game.
Re-Playability: 8 / 10
  • Having only played the game for a limited amount of time, I cannot comment fully on its Re-Playability, however it does provide that warm reassurance that It will continue to entertain the masses for months or even years to come.
Entertainment Value: 8 / 10
  • Entertainment wise the game shows overall promise as it entices the player into it, it also keeps them guessing as to what the Pet sims will do next as the autonomy of pets means that just about anything could happen.
Speed: 9 / 10
  • The speed of the game in terms of performance is quite remarkable considering the specifications required to play it, in my specifications I found the game to run smoothly and without issue, only the occasional lag time crept in, but and I must stress this, it lagged for less than a second when it happened.
Audio: 8 / 10
  • The audio to the game is refreshing and new, while this should be applauded, I would however state that some of the choices for the in-game music (When in Build-Mode for example) Do leave me wondering why they were put there. If the ability to use your own library of music in the game existed then this could easily score a 10 from me.

Technical Information Regarding Testing:
The Sims 3 Pets was tested using the following specifications;

4GB DDR3 Triple Channel RAM
500GB Sata HDD
2GB Graphics
Intel I3 @ 2.53GHz (Not Overclocked)

Game Information:

Formats: 3DS, PC & Mac, Playstaion 3 and Xbox 360
Price*:
  • 3DS - £ 29.99
  • PC & Mac - £24.99
  • Playstation 3 - £39.99
  • Xbox 360 - £39.99
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: The Sims Studio
Release Date: 21st October 2011
Age Rating: 12

*All prices are quoted from GAME (Price List Here)

I do hope you have enjoyed the review, and I look forward to hearing any thoughts you may have on the game.

GTAV Trailer

EVERYONE THE TRAILER IS NOW LIVE AT ROCKSTARS WEBSITE.

Now having said that the game appears to be set in a new city and that the main protaginist is trying to regain some control on his life after a "harsh" few years.

Rockstar have hinted through the release of the trailer that planes are pilotable in the game, which is good news for those of you who weren't happy with the grounding of them in GTA 4.
Also noted is Animals in GTAV, whether or not they will feature in missions or simply as a small animation in the background is yet to be determined.

All i can say is the graphics are heavily improved and the motion engines look more realistic than ever before.
For sure GTAV is going to be one hell of a game. Rockstar will have to do much better than that if they ever want to better themselves in the future.

Until the next time

Halo 4

Bungie certainly have grabbed the gaming market by the collar and shoved its nose against the polished glass with this new game.

Set to be released in December 2012, Halo 4 promises to be one of the best FPS games ever created.

!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!

With the ending of Halo 3 showing the Master Chief going into a cryogenic sleep, telling Cortana to wake him should she need him. The teaser trailer from Xbox Live shows Cortana frantically waking up the Master Chief as the section of ship they were stranded in from Halo 3 began to break up over a planet sized body in space. It has been revealed that it is a forerunner structure which holds a powerful threat to the human race upon its land.

343 industries have promised both new and old in this latest edition of the Halo series, so be assured to see some well known faces as well as some new foes emerging.

Halo4 isn't all about saving the human race (Like Reach was), this time it will be a personal story for both the Master Chief and Cortana. The duo have been through tough scrapes and heroic victories, but as Cortana knows Smart AI's like her only have a seven year lifespan before they enter a state called Rampancy and quite literally think themselves to death. Yes the clock is ticking.

With the 360 entering its twilight era, the Master Chief is coming home, hopefully allowing the 360 to bow out on a high note.

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary

Some new news has just been released about one of Bungies new games coming out this year.
Halo CE: Anniversary promises to be a gleaming redesign of the original Halo Game that sparked it all.

Set to be released on the 15th November 2011 (UK) it promises some awesome new features. For example stereoscopic 3D will be available when playing the Game in its HD mode.
There will also be a feature allowing you to down/up-grade the graphics quality between the original and new versions of the game.

Unfortunately all this shiny new stuff comes with a downside, the multiplayer aspect of the game has been tampered with, while we all wanted to see the game return with its own multiplayer engine, it has been said that it is to return with Halo: Reach's multiplayer engine. This is so it complies with Bungie's infrastructure for compatible gaming.

Stay tuned for more information regarding Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Until next time.

Rest In Peace Steve

Today the news broke that Apple had lost its leading light, its father figure. Steve Jobs, the man behind the world famous Apple devices such as the iMac & iPhone and perhaps the most famous of them all the iPod, died peacefully yesterday.

Apple may not have always been the favourite technology company but with the guidance of Steve it created some of the worlds best devices which we all know and love.
The world without Steve will be quieter and it is known that no-one will ever be able to replace his passion for creating the next best thing for the people.

To quote Apple themselves: "The world is immeasurably better because of Steve".

As a personal note; I do send my condolences to Steve's family, friends and colleagues.

Goodbye for now Steve, We thank you for your time on this earth, and you will not be forgotten.

Missing Undead OverRun in RDR:UN

The glitch that caused my console to lose all access to the Undead Overrun appears to have been fixed.

It seems it was caused via an incompatible update that was distributed recently.

It was fixed by clearing the cache of the system and rebooting to Xbox Live's Homepage, after that the update installed itself and the content is now back where it belongs.

I hope no-one else was affected by this issue.

All the best
Until Next Time.

Rainmeter

No this little piece of freeware won't take measurements of rain, and I know it's a weird name for this sort of thing, but just recently, Rainmeter has made browsing my PC so much easier.

Whilst perusing the internet one evening, I found myself looking at an interest thread on 4chan's Wallpaper General threads, and in that, it gave information in how to change the look of PCs. Other than Windows Aero customisations and task bar customisations, this nifty piece of freeware has both added style and practicality to my machine.

Basically, Rainmeter acts as a different task bar. It holds various things, like a media player interface, shutdown and power on buttons, weather, network information, PC information and memos. So this should be the best thing since sliced bread. In a way, it is, but it can be a hassle to get working.

Other than installing Rainmeter, it is recommended you install a basic skin. Something to both look good and be functional. If the file doesn't come as a Rainmeter skin file (rnmtrsf) then you're going to spend an hour trying to un-rar files and putting them in the right skin folder (which by the way is in My Documents, not Program Files). But once the skins are installed, you're home and dry.

Like I said earlier, the skins do come in extremely useful. Using the skins to open things like Google Chrome,  Notepad, Mozilla Firefox, The Sims 3, Kaspersky Internet Suite. The skins also come with things like financial markets, so you always have the stocks up in your top right hand corner. You can use it for Winamp (something which I forgot to use in my last post) and iTunes. You can use it to leave memos for you on the front page, set an alarm, shut down your PC and see how much space you have left on your hard drive(s). You can also download new skins, either from customzation.org or from deviantart, of which both links will be left at the end of this post.

There is also another type of freeware, called Rainlendar, which focuses mainly on organisation, such as calendars, memos, alarms, task managers, diaries and other such things. This can be found at http://www.rainlendar.net. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what it's like, as I don't have it installed.

Thanks for reading, and more posts like this will come along soon. Thanks for reading. Screenshots and links to follow

With basic widgets from Rainmeter

With added widgets, including financial information and a music player

Rainmeter can be found at http://www.rainmeter.net

Skins can be found at http://www.customizer.org/rainmeter

Undead Overrun Missing in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Yes you heard me, Undead Overrun has officially disappeared from the multiplayer menu on Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.

It is unknown if this affects players globally, but it is known that it does occur. My XBL account & 360 no longer have access to Undead Overrun.

I am currently in discussion with Rockstar Games as to the cause of this issue.

If you are also affected through this, please leave a comment below.

Happy gaming guys.

New Team Member

Yep everyone,

You may have seen that kick-ass update about Windows Media Player below, posted by my very dear friend.

I've brought him on board to help out with the blog so we can continue updating it often for you guys.

Rest assured its all tech stuff here so keep on reading.

Until next time.

Media Players and the Like

People often come up to me, and say "Matt, I'm sick to death of Windows Media Player, iTunes and I want to use something completely different." Well, maybe not, but I've been thinking this a lot recently. Windows Media Player is both sluggish and pointless a lot of the time. So I've taken it upon myself to try and find a replacement which won't make me curl up into the fetal position and cry when it stops working. Bearing in mind, this list will include a selection of online music players as well as software and freeware.

The first one I found on my travels is another venture from Microsoft, the Zune player. This player offers a nifty and snazzy design, and looks ultra-modern, other than being basic. The problem is that with this player, everything slows down to a pre-Windows 1995 machine. I've seen 1990 Amstrad's running quicker than Windows 7 with Zune running. Especially when you have something like Google Chrome, or MSN, or anything else running at the same time. A serious no then.

The next player I managed to stumble across is called, and bear with me on this one, Foobar 2000. Yeah, that's what I thought too, but to be honest, I quite like it. It's so basic it makes even the most simplistic caveman tools look futuristic. You can just choose the theme of the player, and then all you have to do is add the My Music folder and you're on your way. Other than that, the player never crashes, never lags and is incredibly fast when changing songs. Other than that, it is a bit too basic and takes forever to load.

Next up is the ever basic VLC player, which we used at college to watch videos on, as Windows Media Player never had the codec to watch videos. Other than being an extremely versatile player, it is also simplistic to use like Foobar 2000, and will play any file, be it OGG, VORBIS, WMA, MP3 or FLAC. Again, the player is a bit too basic, and sometimes will close unexpectedly, but other than that, it is an extremely versatile and useful player, and comes as a portable version as well.

When it comes to internet players, we look for ones that are easy to use, easy to find, full of music and free. When it comes to this then, Last FM should be on top of the game. With every song under the sun, you'd expect this player to come at the top of internet music player list. Although bandwidth intensive, it is incredibly good to use, with the added features of suggesting songs you may like to hear, as well as your entire library. But, like I said earlier, it is bandwidth intensive, and when you're trying to listen on it whilst playing the Xbox, it does tend to lag everything out a little bit.

Instead, why not try something like We7. We7 can be linked to Last FM, and will also include your library, except now you can make playlists and share music to Facebook, unlike Last FM. The only problem with We7 now however is the adverts you get in between songs, which can grate a little bit when you're trying to create a mosh pit in your room. One minute you've got Slipknot, the next minute you're listening to an advert about toothpaste.

Finally, the last internet music player is Spotify. Even though it is technically software, it has to connect to the internet to play music. The decent thing about this player is that it is lightweight, and easy to use. Again, it has adverts during the time between songs, but due to some unknown media mogul-ish stylings at head office, you can now only listen to 200 songs a month. I listen to that in a day. You can only listen to 200 songs with the free version of the player. With the Unlimited version of the player, you can listen to unlimited songs, but you still get the adverts. This costs £4.99 a month to use this. If you want to go whole hog and have unlimited songs, no adverts, unlimited playlists and exclusive songs on the player, you can go for the Spotify Premium package, setting you back £9.99 a month. Not really worth it to be perfectly honest.

Long story short, I'm going to stick with Windows Media Player.

8.4 GHz Processors!!!

AMD has annouced that on Tuesday that it was awarded the Guinness World Record for computer processor speed for an overclocked version of its future-release eight-core FX desktop processor.

The CPU maxed out 8.429 GHz with the help of several specialists, as well as a heavy dose of liquid nitrogen and helium for cooling. The previous record speed set for a processor was 8.308 GHz.

Though the record-winning overclock and cooling system is far more complex than anything a consumer would likely use in a home, FX processors also happened to achieve clock frequencies well above 5 GHz using only air- or sub-US$100 water cooling solutions, AMD said.

No benchmarking or stress testing was used for the CPU that cracked the world record.

Battle And Get!, Pokemon Typing DS

Remember that phrase: The Pen is mightier than the sword?
Well it was so claimed by the playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton, yet he has a point with that phrase.

Well in the latest pokemon game in the franchise "Battle And Get!, Pokemon Typing DS", you can say a swift farewell to the stylus and wave hello (quite literally) with your hands, because you'll be catching them all with your fingers and a trusty bluetooth keyboard.

In this edition you can catch pokemon from all five of the generations, in total 403 of the creatures are spread across frozen glaciers, parks gardens and even under the sea.

Issues???
While you might know the original Japanese spelling of the name, this will not help you here. For example Munna has an extra "n" and everyone's favourite Pikachu entails an extra "u" in its name.
Whats more even Geodude's name isn't fit to print here.. And that's saying something.

With levels requiring you to identify a pokemon from its cry, to ones that favour speed of accuracy and vice versa. The game will surely pose a challenge to even the worthiest of trainers. You'll also be pitted in battles where you have to tap punctuation marks such as the colon, semi-colon, @ symbol and more to dodge, retaliate and create attacks.

Unfortunately there is no multiplayer version of this game planned, however would you really need it in a game that bizzare?

Until next time

Apple to include Twitter in IOS5?

Apple looks like they may be about to make the internet a whole lot simpler for the users, by introducing the ability to upload pictures directly to Twitter via IOS menu systems.

What this means is that people would be able to tap an image and a small menu would show with the option to upload to Twitter.
This act is looking increasingly likely since there are suggestions that Twitter wish to open a image hosting service of there own. Unfortunatly this could mean the end for popular image hosts, TwitPic and YFrog.

If Apple do go ahead with this move to include Twitter in the menus, will Facebook and other popular social sites get the same treatment or will they buy the way in?

We'll find out soon enough.
Until the next time.

Please Note the following dates are located from sources within the UK and may not be accurate in other locations throughout the world

Ok, so the Xbox 360 has had a new system update performed, granted its not one that gives it a new look but it addresses some minor issues within the system as well as preparing it for new features.

So lets have a look shall we?

Within the new update we now have the following improvements and add-ins:

  • Minor bugfix.

* The incompatibility with the Lite-On drives means that users need a console replacement, however it doesn't affect ALL users, only some, Microsoft have said that they can detect this issue over Xbox Live and will contact users if they have the issue occur. This is presumably via the XBL Messaging Facility or Via Email to the users registered email address.
(Note: after some small comparisons, it would appear that the models affected by this are the Xbox 360 Premium 60GB Models, this is yet unconfirmed)

Thats all for now everyone.
I will be back soon with more tech news.

Laser Blasts New Record

A new pioneering technology utilizing lasers has broken its previous record on data transmission. It can transmit up to 10 Terabits a second(Tb/s).

As quoted from the BBC News Technology Page. That means At those speeds, the entire Library of Congress collections could be sent down an optical fibre in 10 seconds.

There was only one downside to this revelation, It used 327 lasers instead of just one, while this is a useful development, all those lasers would fill up data racks and consume huge amounts of power.

Sony cards were encrypted!

Sony has revealed that the credit ad debit card details of it's many users was encrypted in secure files.

So rest assured that your cards are safe ( but better be safe than sorry, I suggest you keep a eye on any suspicious transactions).

However other details such as your home address were not given the same level of encryption, this means they are potentially useful to those who hacked the PSN network in the first place.

Check back soon for more news.
Until the next time.

GTA V Information Leaked

Information regarding the latest addition to the GTA Franchise has been released.

The long awaited location of the latest game has finally been revealed as San Andreas.
Yes I hear you cry out that it has been used before, but as in GTA IV it was revealed that Liberty City (AKA, Manhattan & NYC) was to be retired from the series.

However they've now decided that San Andreas is the perfect place to hold the latest game. Also it has been revealed that Planes WILL be pilotable in the game. They were removed from GTA IV as flyable vehicles due to the referance of they could be used for "terrorist" purposes.
Jet packs are unconfirmed as a return to the game, however since the game would be set in San Andreas it is possible they make a return.

As of 28th April 2011, the name "Rush" has unofficially been assigned to the game.

Launch details regarding the game are still unknown however due to the early registration of the URLS included in the game, two such URLS include LifeInvader.com (A Parody of Facebook) and StopPayingYourMorgage.com.

Further Information will be posted when the information is made available to me.
Enjoy The News.

Just when you thought you'd caught them all!

SO!!

Pokemon Black and White have been released, with the addition of 150+ new pokemon to the series, bring the total from 493 to a whopping 649 catchable beasties!

Anyway to the review!!.
The game kicks off the with traditional 3 starter pokemon, a water type, grass type and fire type, by the names of Oshawatt, Snivy and Tepig. respectively.
Once you've chosen your partner for the story your two friends (Bianca and Cheren) choose the other two pokemon and being their own journey.

The game follows the traditional "complete the pokedex" quest this time set by a new professor by the name of Juniper. So there are a few changes! But wait.. As a new design Game Freak added a new regional "enemy" called Team Plasma who are on a mission to make all trainers release their pokemon since they believe it to be wrong to keep the pokemon stored in pokeballs. Team Plasma is headed up by a naive young trainer called "N" who apparently the inherent king of Team Plasma.

The biggest change to the game by far is the 3D perspective of the game, something that can be seen as a better example in the following locations in the game:
  • DragonSpiral Tower
  • Celestial Tower
  • Victory Road
  • Pokemon League
  • Abyssal Ruins
Remember in the good old days when Poke Mart and Poke Center were two different buildings either marked out by name on the building or a coloured roof? Well no more! They're now one single building which makes things a whole load easier with your sick pokemon you can heal them and buy the right tools to kick your way through the Elite Four.

As with all the pokemon games there are several legendaries to see within the game. From the well known Reshiram and Zekrom to the amazingly elusive Victini.
I must confess as an avid Pokemon player that you will be amazed with the cutscene graphics, in fact here is a link to the Cutscene involving the Legendary Zekrom, taken from Pokemon Black.

So the scores:

Graphics: 10/10
Honestly I cannot fault them, they're better than ever and its just such an awesome game to play.

Completion speed: 8/10
For my liking I found the game ended too quickly, but then again thats my personal feeling since I've been, gone and played practically every version of pokemon that ever existed.

Re-Playability: 10/10
The game will never get old, its just a simple story with that little bit extra thrown into it.

Sounds: 10/10
Its got a whole new music score, how awesome is that. Even the battle music has been dusted off and put through its paces.

So all in all the game is so much better than its predecessors and I therefore recommend it to you all, it is a seriously good buy for its content.

Plus if your a UK player you can catch Victini from March 4th until April 22nd. Of course you should know this already since each game ships with a small notice telling you about it, go on, its really worth it you know.

Until Next Time!

Not Entirely Amused

Ok, so this isn't a planned update.. however i feel it needs voicing.

I'm all for watching new talent on youtube, be it singing, guitar or whatever. What I don't like is watching a video proclaiming someone has performed a talent when there is a distinct clue on the video that gives away a error.

I refer to a video I recently watched about someone performing a version of Through The Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero 3.
While the video quite clearly only shows them in the room it doesn't distract from the fact the sound of the game is out by over a second and also that the Xbox 360 shown in the room has a 2nd controller switched on.

This allows the 2nd controller to appear to be playing when in actual fact it doesn't do anything to the screen, the player one is the one in control of the screen.

Granted the sound delay can be due to a bad camera but the Xbox needs to clearly visible and showing only one controller switched on.

Sorry but thats my thoughts.

Delight

Ah the ecstatic taste of delight.

Why might you ask?

Well, after tomorrow afternoon I might be the owner of a new desktop tower, I've been helping diagnose problems with it and from what I have been told the owner no longer wants it.
So, now i might have that tower my life gets better.

On another plus side I've been out and bought myself Forza Motorsport 3: Ultimate collection ata bargain price.

Rest assured I shall be reviewing the game once i near its completion, so far it looks to be a promising ride.

All for now

Net Addresses, Sony and more Sony

Ok folks, fasten your seatbelts because the IPV4 naming scheme for the internet is entering its final months.

In the next few days an internet agency is set to ask for some more addresses for the internet. Once this event happens the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) will be left with five sets of /8 in its pool. IANA will then be assigning each of the international registries one set of /8.
These are set to be totally exhausted by September 2011.

Info:
A "/8" is the biggest block of net addresses that IANA hands out and comprises about 16 million addresses.

Now for Sony!!!

Sony have been in the news twice this week with the Unveiling of the new NGP (Next Generation Portable) games console.

With Specs like:
  • 5 Inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) Display
  • Wifi
  • 3G Connection
  • Touch screen
People are bound to be enticed by the lasted offerings.

Sony have also managed to win a ruling which stops the publication of a Master Key which originally prevented the user from playing homebrew games on the powerful console.
An update has also been administered to consoles to prevent users from playing homebrews however work is said to be going on to circumvent this.

Thats all for now folks

Red Dead Redemption Review

Red Dead Redemption is Rockstar Games answer to the critically acclaimed game Red Dead Revolver, Having been six years in the making (Hence the Achievement/Trophy Called "Six Years In The Making"), Red Dead Redemption had a score to settle in the gaming world.

The Game focuses around a farmer called John Marston, who in a former time ran alongside other bandits as part of a gang. Red Dead shares a likeness to the Grand Theft Auto IV game in which the main protagonist has traveled far to hunt down a man. The difference being that Red Dead has the character under forced work from the federal government.

Rockstar made a effective impact with Red Dead as the game opens with John listening into conversations on the train as he rides into Blackwater town, once you taste that small snippet of a story a world of freedom is thrust into John's arms. Rockstar expertly recreate the barren wastelands with tumbleweed and wildlife that are either docile or chase you.

The gameplay is very well laid out since the player is constantly kept entertained with the main story missions and then they are hogtied into a secondary mission.
Rockstar keep the player guessing all through the game since they use a series of procedural or random events, unfortunately noticed by players such as myself, one particular event occurs way too often for anyone to like.
This particular event involves a poor woman, a stagecoach and the ever cliche ambush, however Rockstar catered for the players that feel annoyed with this repetitive action, you gain the option to hogtie a woman and place her on the train tracks, you can then stand watch and see a train come roaring past, once done a Achievement/Trophy is unlocked and the player is once again happy.

Rockstar have also unleashed a new concept to the game, an Honor and Fame system, should an action the player performs be deemed good then John receives a proportionate value of Honor points and Fame points. On the opposite hand if the player makes a move that is deemed bad then the Honor and Fame values decrease.
The game also employs a wanted system similar to GTA, in Red Dead this is reflected as a Bounty system, with One Star gaining you the local sheriffs and deputies, all the way up to 6 stars which pulls in all the previous lower ranks of law enforcement and puts you firmly in the presence of the US Army Marshals which in the game are a significant threat to the player.

In the multiplayer aspect of game has much accreditation to it, since the player can enjoy a delightful group of games from 5-a-side duels or shootouts to Capture the flag, all the way to free for all deathmatch. For those players that want to enjoy the vast expanse of land without fear of being attacked can join a free roam session in which you can enjoy yourself to your hearts content.

Through the game there have been many glitches which were lovingly taken care of in the final release of the game, however the one issue that would need to be addressed is the Save feature which is removed when a player uses a cheat such as Infinite Ammo.

Overall the game is a very delightful main course from Rockstar Games, a few small adjustments could be done to the game to make it more enjoyable for those with a detailed view of how it could be done, The game is also a high recommendation to those that haven't touched a Rockstar game before.

Well, I'm afraid that's all for now.
Please check back soon for the Undead Nightmare Expansion review.
All the best,
Dan

No Collaboration

Contrary to the thoughts of some, there are currently no plans to post collaborations on this blog.

I write this since I have been asked a couple of times, and would like to currently, keep the updates simple and about technology.

If a genuine topic requires a collaboration between a reader from the USA or Australia etc and a reader in the UK, then I will be happy to post it after a brief spell of proof-reading and moderation.

So in short, I am currently not planning on working with any other bloggers, should this change I will update the news pane on the right of this blog.

Thanks
Dan.

Check back in a couple of days to see the funky new tutorials with mod's.

See you soon,

News Blast!!! PS3 & Xbox 360 news!

Hey everyone, this is an unscheduled news update!

PS3 News:
Sony's PS3 has been hacked! Yes you heard me right, the Next-Gen console has had its security key leaked.
The security key was a secret number which was used to "sign" all authorised games and content for the console, now that the security key has been revealed it can enable users to run unauthorised programs on the powerful console. Examples of this can be pirate games and different operating systems.

Xbox 360 News:
Owners of Microsofts all new accessory the "Kinect" have become outraged after numerous consoles have suffered a General Hardware Failure*, Microsoft currently comment that no link is shown between the used of the Kinect and the failure of the consoles.
According to Microsoft the Kinect has been developed to work on all the Xbox 360 consoles (Including the new 4GB and 250GB S series models).

Microsoft then go on to say; "There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental,"
(Microsoft Quote Located @ bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12121999)

DISCLAIMER: DotHorizon do NOT condone piracy, hacking or modification of machines, consoles, software etc, unless the aforementioned is for a beneficial purpose only.

See you all soon,
